[Softball] Trevecca Softball | Trojan MaKray Odom Makes 2018 D2CCA All-American Team
ROLLA, Mo. – Trevecca Nazarene University sophomore shortstop MaKray Odom is a Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-American Third Team selection. She is the first Trojan to be selected to the D2CCA All-American team. Haley Fagan was an honorable mention selection in 2016.  The 2018 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year, received the honor following selection to the 2018 D2CCA Midwest Region First Team. The All-American honors come following a vote of the NCAA Division II sports information directors. CLICK for the full 2018 D2CCA All-American Team. Odom turned in a .493 batting average this season. The .493 batting average is sixth best in all of NCAA Division II through the conference tournament. Her 74 hits are 15th best in NCAA D2. Odom started the season with a hit in her first 25 games. In all, she had just two games without a hit during her 41 game season. She ended the season with a 10-game hit streak going 24-36 (.667) during that span with 12 runs scored, four doubles, a walk, eight RBI, and three stolen bases. Only four times in 150 at-bats this season did MaKray go down on strikes. In her last 131 at-bats, she was retired just once on strikes. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) named Odom to the 2018 NFCA Division II All-Midwest Region First Team. Her season numbers include six doubles, four triples, one home run, 23 RBI and 37 runs scored. Odom's conference rankings are first in batting average (.493) and second in on-base percentage (.506) and hits (74). Her four triples placed her third in the league. She finished fourth in slugging percentage (.607) and stolen bases (22). [Baseball] Trevecca Baseball | Ethan Harrison ABCA / Rawlings All-Midwest Region Team
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The 2018 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. II All-Region teams and Regional Players of the Year have been announced in all eight regions, and Ethan Harrison was selected to the All-Midwest Region Second Team. Ethan Harrison hit .362 on the season with 50 runs, 17 doubles, 68 hits, two triples, 11 home runs, 37 RBI, 25 walks, 18 stolen bases, and seven hit by pitch. His on-base percentage was .448. Harrison was the G-MAC Baseball Player of the Week (2,13, 4/10) twice this year. He also earned TSWA Player of the Week honors on 4/10.  The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association, and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. II All-America Committee. The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007. The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. It's over 9,600 members represent all 50 states and 25 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth. SALEM, Va. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the 2018 NFCA Division II All-American teams Wednesday night and sophomore, MaKray Odom was selected to the Division II All-American Third Team. This follows her selection to the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-American team earlier in the day on Wednesday. Odom was one of six athletes selected as an All-American from the Midwest Region, where she was previously selected as a member of the first team. Her season numbers include a .493 batting average also collecting six doubles, four triples, one home run, 23 RBI and 37 runs scored. Odom's conference rankings include being ranked first in batting average in the conference (.493).   She finished second in on-base percentage (.506) and hits (74). Her four triples placed her third in the league. She finished fourth in slugging percentage (.607) and stolen bases (22). NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) selected Trevecca Nazarene University baseball player Ethan Harrison (JR/Erlanger, KY) to the 2018 NCBWA Midwest Region second team. For Harrison it is the first time for him to make the team. He is also a was selected to the first team for the 2018 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Team. Last year he was nominated to the 2017 NCAA Division II ABCA/Rawlings Midwest All-Region second team. Ethan Harrison hit .362 on the season with 50 runs, 17 doubles, 68 hits, two triples, 11 home runs, 37 RBI, 25 walks, 18 stolen bases, and seven hit by pitch. [Outdoor Track] Trevecca Track & Field | Dominic Obunaka Makes Great Midwest All-Conference Team
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced the 2017-2018 G-MAC Outdoor Track & Field Team on Tuesday and Trojan Dominic Obunaka made the third team with his medal in the Javelin Throw. Dominic Obunaka set the school record in the Javelin Throw while winning the NCAA Division I meet at Austin Peay State University in April. His throw of 178.7 feet earned him the victory. Obunaka owns the 10 best throws in Trevecca Track and Field history in the Javelin Throw. The toss at APSU is the sixth longest in Great Midwest conference history. His throw of 171.2 feet at the 2018 Great Midwest Outdoor Championships is the second-best in program history and placed him third at the meet. She is the second player in program history to reach the 300-strikeout plateau and finished the year just eight strikeouts shy of the single-season mark of 317. Her efforts this season propelled the Lakers to a 44-9 overall record, the GLIAC regular-season and tournament titles and the top seed in the NCAA II Midwest Region Tournament. The Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year, Reisinger is earning D2CCA Midwest Region Player of the Year accolades after leading the GLVC with a .458 batting average. She finished the year with five doubles, five triples, 10 home runs and 37 RBIs; all while leading the GLVC in runs scored (49) and stolen bases (38). Reisinger's efforts helped the Bulldogs to a 26-20 overall record, 15-13 GLVC, and a spot in the GLVC Tournament. Lipovsky and Reisinger were joined on the All-Midwest Region first team by Grand Valley State senior pitcher Allie Grys, freshman first baseman Nikoma Holmen, senior third baseman Teagan Shomin and junior catcher Kaylie Rhynard; University of Missouri-St. Louis junior pitcher Carly Kingery and senior second baseman Jennah Perryman; Trevecca Nazarene University sophomore shortstop MaKray Odom; Hillsdale College junior outfielder Katie Kish; University of Illinois Springfield sophomore outfielder Lakyn Wagoner and senior utility player (pitcher) Ali Haesele; McKendree University senior designated player Brooke Gajewski; and Saginaw Valley State University senior utility player (non-pitcher) Courtney Reeves. This marks the third straight year that Lipovsky and Reisinger have earned All-Midwest Region honors. NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced the 2018 G-MAC Women's Golf All-Conference team and individual awards. Two Trojans, Rachael McMahan and Lexie Shaw, were selected to the 2017-2018 All-Conference Team McMahan produced a victory at the GLIAC VS Great Midwest Showdown and collected second place finishes at the Converse Invitational and the Phoenix Invitational. The sophomore finished in a tie fourth at the 2018 Great Midwest Championship. In all she finished in the top five in eight different events this year.   McMahan was one of six individuals to make the 2018 NCAA Division II East Super Regional. McMahan finished 30th out of 66th in the Super Regional. During the year McMahan earned G-MAC Athlete of the Week after her performance at the Phoenix Invitational scoring 76-76=152  (+4) to finish in second place. McMahan's season average of 77.32 over 22 rounds over 11 tournaments is one of the best seasons in school history. Her 150 (75-75) at the Town and Country Invitational was her season best for a 36-hole tournament. Shaw earned her All-Conference selection with the help of a fourth place finish at the 2017-2018 Great Midwest Championships. Her score of 158 during the Championships tied with teammate Rachael McMahan. Shaw averaged 80.32 per round over 19 rounds played and 10 events. Shaw finished in the top 10 of five events. Her best 36-hole performance was a 156 on two different occasions. NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced the 2017-2018 G-MAC Men's Golf All-Conference team and individual awards on Monday. In total, three different Trojans won six awards, including Larken Whittemore being named the 2018 Great Midwest Player of the Year. Blain Turner is the 2018 Great Midwest Tournament Medalist and 2018 Great Midwest Freshman of the Year. Trevor Lay joined Whittemore and Turner on the 2017-2018 Great Midwest All-conference Team. Whittemore produced a record-breaking year for the Trojans, setting the Trevecca and Great Midwest mark for the lowest round when he shot a 64 in the Mississippi College Invitational.After finishing in a three-way tie for first in the opening round of the Findlay Spring Invite, Whittemore claimed the individual title the next day shooting a two-day total of 140. Whittemore totaled four top 10 finishes this year and finished in the top 20 in six of his eight events this year. His average round for the year, 73.05, was fueled by nine par or better rounds. Whittemore turned in a 12-under par 204 at the Mississippi College Invitational.    Whittemore was also named to the All-Conference team where he joins teammates, Trevor Lay and Blain Turner. In addition to being recognized as the 2018 G-MAC individual medalist and member of the All-Conference team, Blain Turner was also named the 2018 G-MAC Freshman of the Year. Turner put together a record-breaking freshman campaign for the Trojans, setting the record for par or better rounds in a season with 11. Turner also owns the record for wins in a season (3). Turner averaged 73.28 per round over 23.5 rounds in 10 events. He finished in the top 10 of six events Trevor Lay finished in the top 10 in scoring average in the G-MAC. Lay competed in 20.5 rounds and finished the season with a 74.88 scoring average in nine events. Lay had four finishes in the top 11. Koprowski pitched 41.1 innings over 20 appearances. He collected 35 strikeouts with 18 walks while opponents hit .216 against him.   Drew Pierce after a tough-luck 0-5 start, Pierce continued to grind and was rewarded with two Great Midwest Pitcher of the Week honors over the last three weeks of the regular season. He picked up two wins in the stretch. He added the Tennessee Sports Writers Association pitcher of the week honor during that span as well. He stepped it up another notch with a stellar 8-inning effort in his lone start at the G-MAC Championships, a game the Trojans won over No. 16 Ohio Dominican. Pierce started 14 games with a 2-5 record. His season earned run average (3.89) was second best on the team, and he added 96 strikeouts over 85.2 innings. He has walked just 28 and opponents hit just .228 against him. Jake Roberson led the team with seven wins and a 7-2 record. Roberson created 65 strikeouts over 70.1 innings pitched. His innings pitched are second-most on the team, and the third-best earned run average. Her three-day total is 80+77+80=237. Rachael McMahan was one of six individuals selected to compete at the East Super Regional. She finished in third, just three strokes behind Alex Trask (25th) of William Jewell College and seven strokes behind Nicolle Barmettler (16th) of Truman State University. TOURNAMENT FIELD REPORTUniversity of Indianapolis came from behind to claim the team title. U of Indy outshot Grand Valley State University by eight strokes to claim the championship Wednesday. U of Indy finished with a team total of 882 while GVSU had a 887. The University of Missouri St. Louis finished third with a distant 913. Great Midwest tournament champion, Findlay, finished in fourth with a 941-team score. Pilar Echeverria (UIndy) and Katharina Keilich (UIndy) took home the top two honors individually. Echeverria (216) and Keilich (220) was followed by Missouri- St. Louis's Emma Thorngren 221. NASHVILLE – Four Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team members were recognized with selection to the 2018 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Team Ethan Harrison is the lone Trojan on the 2018 Great Midwest All-Conference First Team. Harrison, who has held down the second base position this season, Making the 2018 Great Midwest All-Conference Second Team is Sam Mang. Mang is the Trojans primary catcher but also spends time as the designated hitter. A pair of freshmen pitchers made the 2018 Great Midwest All-Conference Honorable Mention team. LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the 2018 NFCA Division II All-Region teams and Trevecca Nazarene University sophomore MaKray Odom made the 2018 NFCA Division II All-Midwest Region First Team. Odom's resume is growing following her second season. Odom is the 2018 Great Midwest Player of the Year and a first-team selection to the all-conference team. Her .493 batting average is sixth best, and her 74 hits are 15th best in all of NCAA Division II through the conference tournament.   Her season numbers include a .493 batting average also collecting six doubles, four triples, one home run, 23 RBI and 37 runs scored. Odom's conference rankings include being ranked first in batting average in the conference (.493).  She finished second in on-base percentage (.506) and hits (74). Her four triples placed her third in the league. She finished fourth in slugging percentage (.607) and stolen bases (22). Odom ranked fifth runs scored (37) and total bases (91).Odom put a stamp on her season and affirmed her player of the year honor at the 2018 Great Midwest Championships. There Odom hit .727 (8-11) with a .818 on-base-percentage. Odom scored twice with a double, an RBI, and two stolen bases. Odom helped lead the Trojans to another 30-win season and a 14-4 home mark while touring the Great Midwest with a 15-9 mark. This year's region squads are comprised of 207 student-athletes from 120 programs. The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's eight regions with first and second-team selections. Turner turned in a three-over-par effort on the front nine with six pars. On the back nine, he shot one over and had a birdie on the par four 382-yard hole number 16. Larken Whittemore is tied for 73rd with a five over 77. Whittemore shot a five-over par on the front nine then recorded nine straight pars on the back nine. Larken Whittemore's 14 pars ranked him in a tie for eighth in the field, one par behind the top seven. The TNU duo played from hole #1 with a 7:20 AM and 7:30 AM tee time on Monday. TOURNAMENT FIELD REPORTTiffin University leads the field with a seven-under-par 281. Tiffin is set to join the Great Midwest for the 2018-2019 season. The University of Findlay, the 2018 Great Midwest champion, is tied for 19th with an opening round 305. They are the only current G-MAC team in the field. Logan Price of Tiffin University leads the field with a five-under-par 67. Tiffin is set to join the Great Midwest for the 2018-2019 season. Luke Kelly of the University of Findlay is the top current G-MAC individual in the field. Kelly shot an opening round three-over par 75 and is tied for 43rd. MOREThe NCAA Division II regional field includes 80 teams and 32 student-athletes competing as individuals at the four regional sites which will feed the 2018 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships. Trevecca's Blain Turner and Larken Whittemore are two of the 32 individuals to make the regional round. At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 21-25, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals, Fighting Joe Course in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The remaining eight-team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year's head-to-head medal play portion of the championships, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven. NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (25-21, 15-9 Great Midwest) is the #2 Seed from the South Division at the 2018 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Championships. [Baseball] Trevecca Baseball | Close Regular Season Hosting D&E and Senior Day
NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene University will send off four seniors for the final when they host Davis & Elkins College for a three-game series beginning Friday at 1 PM at Jackson Field. WATCH LIVE bit.ly/TNUtrojansLIVE  The four seniors are Seth Morgan, Ethan Hurt, Carter Wiseman, and Tyler Burns. Senior day ceremonies will take place between the two games on Friday. Among active career leaders in Trevecca history, Ethan Hurt is ninth all-time in career hits (214) and second all-time in career steals (97). He is the all-division NCAA leader in career stolen bases. On the year, Ethan Hurt has a .292 batting average with six doubles, two triples, three home runs, 19 RBIs and 26 runs scored. Carter Wiseman has a .302 average on the year collecting four doubles, three triples, two home runs, 21 RBIs and 27 runs scored. Seth Morgan has a .273 average with a home run five RBIs and four runs scored. Tyler Burns has the highest average among the seniors with a slash mark of .345, seven doubles, five home runs, 29 RBIs and 24 runs scored. Burns has come out of the bullpen to produce four saves and strike out eight batters in eight innings of relief while holding opposing batters are hitting .172 off Burns. Ryan Shultz is 5-4 from the rotation throwing one complete game and striking out 54 batters in 51 and two-thirds innings. He has also held opposing batters to an average of .258 against him. The teams will play two games on Friday and a single game on Saturday at 1 PM. The Senators are 11-32 on the year and 4-19 in Great Midwest play. Trevecca is 23-21 overall and 13-9 in Great Midwest play. XENIA, Ohio – The fifth-seeded Trevecca Nazarene University softball team went 0-1 on Friday in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) softball championships. Trevecca was defeated by Ohio Dominican University 4-3 in nine innings. Similarly, Sydney Burdge did well on the second day in the Heptathlon." "Dominique Obunaka moved from 5th to the podium (3rd) on his sixth and final throw of the Javelin competition.
