[Softball] Salgado, Escalera, and Bonde Earn All-KCAC Softball Honors
WICHITA, Kan. - The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2018 all-conference softball awards. Student-athletes were selected for all awards by vote of the KCAC head softball coaches. Sterling had three Lady Warriors selected to the lists: Dominique Salgado (SR/Sylmar, Calif.), Miranda Escalera (JR/Santa Clarita, Calif.), and Tiana Bonde (SR/Los Alamitos, Calif.).Dominique Salgado was named an All-KCAC Second Team first baseman for Sterling. At the end of the season, Salgado led Sterling with a .415 batting average, which was 3rd in the KCAC. She finished the season a team high 56 hits, including a team high 15 doubles and a triple, while collecting a total of 33 RBIs and two stolen bases for the Lady Warriors. Salgado also ranked 27th in the NAIA in Doubles per Game and finished 40th in the NAIA in Hits per Game. Miranda Escalera was named an All-KCAC Second Team third baseman for the Lady Warriors, finishing the season with a batting average of .431 (9th in the KCAC). Escalera ended the year with 55 hits, including 12 doubles, a triple, and six homeruns, while also adding a team high 44 RBIs (4th in the KCAC) and two stolen bases. Escalera ranked in the Top 50 in the NAIA in a number of categories including RBIs per Game and Hits per Game.Tiana Bonde was named an All-KCAC Honorable Mention utility player for SC. Despite missing games due to injury, Bonde had a strong season, finishing with a batting average of .373, while racking up 31 hits: four doubles, a triple, and six homeruns. She also added 21 RBIs to finish out her career as a Lady Warrior. The Tabor College Bluejays are the regular season champions, ending the season with a 25-18 overall record and a 17-5 conference record, earning head coach Suzanne Unruh KCAC Coach of the Year by her peers. Ashley Stone of Oklahoma Wesleyan University earns the KCAC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards following a regular season where she hit a 0.424 average, 53 hits, 52 RBIs, 30 runs, and 10 home runs. Madison Byrd of Tabor College (1.79 ERA) earned KCAC Pitcher of the Year, while Breanna Vest of Friends was named Newcomer of the Year.The following athletes were selected by conference coaches as All-KCAC First Team, All-KCAC Second Team, Honorable Mention and Gold Glove Teams. 


[Baseball] Baseball Finishes Season At Kansas Wesleyan
SALINA, Kan. – The Sterling College Warriors closed the 2018 season over the weekend in Salina, taking on the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes for their final series of the year. In three hard fought games, the Coyotes would have the upper hand over the Warriors, as Kansas Wesleyan would defeat Sterling in all three games.  


[Baseball] Velazquez, Davis, and Ramos Named to All-KCAC Baseball Lists
WICHITA, Kan. - The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2018 all-conference baseball awards. Student-athletes were selected for all awards by vote of the KCAC head baseball coaches. Sterling had three Warriors selected to the lists: Miguel Velazquez (JR/Cidra, Puerto Rico), Corey Davis (SR/Visalia, Calif.), and Ulysses Ramos (SR/Union City, Calif.). Miguel Velazquez was named All-KCAC Honorable Mention at catcher for Sterling. At the end of the season, Velazquez had a batting average of .374 (15th in the KCAC), along with a slugging percentage of .510, finishing the year with 55 hits (eight doubles and four home uns). He also collected 35 RBIs and picked up two stolen bases for the Warriors.Corey Davis was named All-KCAC Honorable Mention at shortstop for the Warriors, finishing the season with a batting average of .339 and a slugging percentage of .441. Davis ended the year with 63 hits (12th in the KCAC), including nine doubles, two triples, and two homeruns. He also collected 28 RBIs and added 10 stolen bases, starting all 46 games for the Warriors this season. Davis was also selected to the KCAC Baseball Gold Glove Team.Ulysses Ramos was named an All-KCAC Honorable Mention pitcher for SC. Ramos finished the season with 83 strikeouts which was the best in the KCAC. He also finished with a 4.33 ERA to lead the Warriors on the mound. Ramos also ended the season ranked 38th in the NAIA in Total Hits Allowed. The Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan University earned the KCAC Regular Season title for the second-straight year, finishing the conference season at 25-5 and 47-6 overall. Head coach Matt Parker was selected by his peers as KCAC Coach of the Year. Friends University's Augie Isaacson earns the KCAC Player of the Year award following a junior campaign where he hit 0.424 with 86 hits, 51 runs, 50 RBI's, 13 doubles, and 7 homeruns. Tyson Cronin of Oklahoma Wesleyan (1.21 ERA) was named Pitcher of the Year, and McPherson's Josh Lewis was named Freshman of the Year. All awards are voted on by KCAC baseball coaches.All student-athletes will be honored during the 2018 KCAC Baseball Tournament on Wednesday, May 2 at the Great Bend Sports Complex in Great Bend, Kan., immediately following game two. The following athletes were selected by conference coaches as All-KCAC First Team, All-KCAC Second Team, KCAC Honorable Mention, and KCAC Baseball Gold Glove Team.


[Tennis] Hipp and Ryan Earn All-KCAC Tennis Honors
WICHITA, Kan. - The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2018 All-Conference awards for women's tennis. Student-athletes were selected for all awards by vote of the KCAC head women's tennis coaches. Sterling had two women's tennis players make the list: Keeley Hipp (FR/Claflin, Kan.) and Janae Ryan (FR/Claflin, Kan.).Keeley Hipp was an All-KCAC Second Team selection, playing at No.1 Doubles and No. 2 Singles. She finished with 5-4 conference record in singles play and combined with Ryan to compete in doubles play, finishing 6-3 against KCAC teams.  Janae Ryan was an All-KCAC Honorable Mention selection, playing at No. 1 Doubles and No. 1 Singles. She finished with a 5-4 KCAC record in singles play and had a strong season in doubles with Hipp, to go 6-3 in conference.Southwestern College, Tabor College, and McPherson College tied for the regular season champions with 8-1 conference records. Tabor's head coach John Ruder was named Coach of the Year, as Bluejay Jessica Emoto was unanimously named MVP for the third-straight year. Kansas Wesleyan's Paola Vargas has been named Freshman of the Year, Nicole Robbins of Ottawa earned Newcomer of the Year, Abbi Groff of Southwestern was named Scholar Athlete of the Year, and Brittany Zipf of McPherson earned the Sportsmanship Award.Conference tennis coaches selected the following athletes as either first team, second team, or honorable mention All-KCAC:


[Softball] Softball Comes Up Short Against Friends
STERLING, Kan. – The Sterling College Lady Warriors finished up their season on Thursday afternoon, taking on the Friends University Falcons for their final games of the year. The two teams battled it out, but the Falcons would come away with wins over the Lady Warriors, as Friends defeated Sterling, 5-3 and 13-6.


[Softball] Softball Earns Senior Day Win Over York
STERLING, KAN. – The Sterling College Softball team took on the York College Panthers on Monday afternoon for Senior Day, as the Lady Warriors start to wrap up the season. The two teams would split the doubleheader, with York taking the first game 4-0 and Sterling bouncing back for the 8-2 victory in game two.


[Baseball] Baseball Earns Victory Over Central Christian
MCPHERSON, Kan. – The Sterling College Warriors were back in McPherson on Tuesday to take on the Central Christian College Tigers for another non-conference matchup. The Warriors hold off the Tigers for a hard fought victory, coming away with the win by defeating Central Christian, 8-4.


[General Athletics] Sterling College to Add Swimming Program
April 24, 2018, Sterling, Kan. – Sterling College announced the launch of the men's and women's swimming program, beginning the 2019-20 fall season. Additionally, Gary Kempf has been named head coach of the Sterling College swimming program. Kempf currently serves as Sterling's athletic director and will continue in that role through December 2018. Kempf is a decorated swimming coach with over 30 years of college coaching experience.


[Cheer] SC Cheer and Dance Open Tryouts Set For April 22nd & 29th
STERLING, Kan. - The Sterling College Cheer team is excited to announce their upcoming cheer and dance team tryouts. The team will also be starting a dance team in the Fall of 2018.


[Baseball] Baseball Earns Win In Split Against Peru State
STERLING, Kan. – The Sterling College Warriors hosted the Peru State College Bobcats earlier this week for another non-conference matchup. Both teams would battle it out in the doubleheader, as Sterling would take the first game 7-6 while Peru State would defeat the Warrior in the second game, 9-3.


[Softball] Softball Sweeps Central Christian 10-0, 11-0
MCPHERSON, KAN. – The Sterling College Lady Warriors traveled to Central Christian College on Thursday for another non-conference matchup. After picking up a strong KCAC victory on the road at Bethany, the Lady Warriors continued the trend in McPherson, picking up two wins over the Tigers behind strong pitching performances from Mia Luques (JR/El Monte, Calif.) and Byanka Diosdado (SR/Los Angeles, Calif.).


[Tennis] Tennis Takes On McPherson and Southwestern
STERLING, KAN. - The Sterling College tennis teams have continued their busy conference schedule with regular season KCAC play coming to a close. The Warriors hosted the McPherson College Bulldogs and traveled to Southwestern last week facing two of the top teams in conference play.


[Softball] Softball Earns Win Over Saint Mary
STERLING, KAN. – The Sterling College Softball team took on the Saint Mary Spires earlier this week in another KCAC doubleheader. On a windy afternoon, the two teams would battle it out as both games were decided by a single run. The Lady Warriors would take the first game by a score of 3-2, while the Spires would hold off Sterling late in the second game to defeat SC, 8-7.


[Baseball] Baseball Picks Up 20-2 Win Over Central Christian
MCPHERSON, Kan. – The Sterling College Warriors traveled to McPherson on Tueday to take on the Central Christian College Tigers for a non-conference matchup. Looking to bounce back for a win, the Warriors would do just that against the Tigers, coming away with a huge win by defeating the CCC, 20-2 in seven innings.


[Tennis] Tennis Comes Up Short To Bethel and Tabor
STERLING, KAN. - The Sterling College tennis teams have been in non-stop action the last week with KCAC play coming down to the final stretch. The Warriors traveled to North Newton earlier in the week and hosted the Tabor College Bluejays on Wednesday afternoon for some more KCAC action. Both teams would come up just short against Bethel and Tabor, as the Warriors look to get back on track this weekend in Winfield.


[Baseball] Baseball Falls In Series To Tabor
STERLING, Kan. – The Sterling College Warriors and the Tabor College Bluejays took the field on Thursday afternoon to start their KCAC series. Tabor would hold off Sterling in all three games, defeating the Warriors 18-8 and 5-0 on Thursday, finishing up the series on Saturday by defeating SC, 7-2.


[Tennis] Tennis Picks Up Wins Over Friends
STERLING, KAN. - The Sterling College tennis teams continued their strong start to KCAC play, as both teams took on the Friends University Falcons last week. The Women would defeat the Falcons 6-3 for their third straight KCAC win, as the Men would earn a 7-2 victory over Friends for their second KCAC win.


[General Athletics] 22nd Annual Warrior Wood And Wedge Golf Tournament Set For June 18
STERLING, Kan. – The 22nd Annual Sterling College Warrior Wood and Wedge Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, June 18, 2018 at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kan. The tournament format will be a four man best-ball scramble. There are only a total of 128 spots available for golfers.The cost for the tournament is $125 per golfer or $500 per foursome. [Softball] Softball Splits With Bethel
NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – The Sterling College Softball team traveled to North Newton, Kansas to take on the Bethel College Threshers for another conference doubleheader. The Lady Warriors and the Threshers split the two games, as Sterling took the first game 5-2 and Bethel defeated the Lady Warriors 7-1 in game two.


[Baseball] Baseball Drops Series To Saint Mary
LEAVENWORTH, KAN. – The Sterling College Warriors traveled to Leavenworth over the weekend to take on the University of Saint Mary Spires. The Warriors would struggle in the three game series, falling to Saint Mary by scores of 14-7, 6-3, and 3-2.


[Softball] Softball Picks Up Win Over OKWU
BARTLESVILLE, OKLA. – The Sterling College Lady Warriors were in Bartlesville, Oklahoma over the weekend to take on the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles. After dropping the first game 9-0, Sterling would bounce back to pick up a strong 6-3 victory over the Eagles, the first win over OKWU since April 2015.

BARTLESVILLE, OKLA. /  LINDSBORG, KAN. - The Sterling College tennis teams opened KCAC play last week, beginning their first official conference matches for this season. The teams also faced off against Southwestern Christian University and the Women finished 3-0 and the Men went 1-2.


[Basketball] Eight Basketball Warriors Named As Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes
Kansas City, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced that 278 Division II Women's basketball student-athletes and 177 Division II men's basketball student-athletes have been named 2018 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.

[Softball] Softball Picks Up KCAC Win, Splits With KWU
STERLING, KAN. – The Sterling College Lady Warriors continued to KCAC play against Kansas Wesleyan University on Wednesday afternoon. The Coyotes would take the first game over Sterling, 8-4, but the Lady Warriors would battle back to win the second game of the series, 7-4.
