[Baseball] Late Rally Lifts Park (Mo.) To Victory in AMC Tournament
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - For much of the afternoon on Friday, the Mid-Continent University baseball team played clean baseball. The Cougars answered every challenge that was thrown their way in the first six inningf by the Park University Pirates, but in the end, the Cougars were unable to will their way to another day in the American Midwest Conference baseball tournament. Park (18-24) pushed across five runs in the seventh inning at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois, turning a 1-1 tie with Mid-Continent (18-28) into a 6-1 victory.
[Baseball] AMC and NCCAA Mid-East Region Teams Honor MCU Baseball Players
MAYFIELD, Ky. - Both the American Midwest Conference, and the NCCAA's Mid-East Region have announced their 2014 baseball postseason awards, and Mid-Continent University's final baseball team was represented on each. Argenis Salazar (JR/Barinas, Venezuela) was honored with a place as a catcher on the All-AMC team as Mid-Continent's lone representative, while two MCU players -- Left Fielder Uriel Hawkins (SR/Columbus, Miss.) and Closing Pitcher Justin Kittel (JR/Smithland, Ky.) -- were honored by the NCCAA Mid-East Region baseball coaches.
[Softball] Three Softballers Earn NCCAA Honors
MAYFIELD, Ky. - The 2014 season was not one where the Mid-Continent University softball team found great success on the field, yet the Cougars have had three players -- all seniors -- named to the All-NCCAA Mid-East Region second team. Kelsey Tramel (SR/Brighton, Tenn.), Colby Smith (SR/Halls, Tenn.), and Bry Navarro (SR/Peoria, Ariz.) all earned spots on the team, which was announced in conjunction with the NCCAA's Mid-East Regional Tournament.
[General] MCU's Tim Shay earns unanimous nod as AMC SID of the Year
MAYFIELD, Ky. – Tim Shay, former Sports Information Director at Mid-Continent University (Ky.), has been named American Midwest Conference Sports Information Director of the Year, a unanimous nod from his peers in sports information offices across the AMC.The award is voted upon by SIDs from each AMC member institution, and for Shay, it's his second conference SID of the Year designation, also winning the award in 2013 during MCU's last season in the TranSouth Athletic Conference."Tim is our award winner because of his professionalism, but what put him over the top was his heart and selflessness when it came to his student-athletes," said Park University's Steve Wilson, who serves as the AMC's Co-Information Director alongside Columbia College's Cindy Potter. "Working at MCU was difficult from about the middle of our conference basketball season through the end of the year, but you wouldn't have known it unless you really made Tim talk about it. Instead, it was always about his student-athletes. That's the kind of professional Tim Shay is."
[Softball] Softballer Smith Tabbed as Assistant at Southwest Tennessee
MEMPHIS – Head coach Keith Gentry of the Southwest Tennessee Community College softball program has found a new assistant for the 2014-15 campaign. The Saluqis have added Halls, Tennessee native Colby Smith to the coaching staff after Smith completed her playing career at Mid-Continent University in Mayfield, Kentucky in 2014. Smith brings experience not just as a player, but also as a coach to Southwest.
