JBU Alumnus Named Walton International Scholarship Program Director
John Brown University announced this week that JBU alumnus Gabriel Williams will become the director of JBU's Walton International Scholarship Program (WISP), beginning this fall. Williams will recruit and advise prospective WISP students and support current JBU WISP students through their studies until completion of their program requirements.


JBU Places Third at 7th Annual Disaster Shelter Design Competition
Samaritan's Purse and JBU Partner to Find Innovative Disaster Response Shelters: John Brown University’s construction management students placed third at the 7th Annual Disaster Shelter Design Competition, sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse International, April 19-21, and hosted on JBU’s Siloam Springs campus. Nine teams from eight universities designed and constructed a rapidly-deployable emergency and disaster shelter, which a panel of judges with expertise in emergency management, engineering, logistics and manufacturing, evaluated for possible implementation in relief efforts worldwide.


JBU Professor Dr. Kevin Simpson Receives 2018-2019 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Grant
Simpson to Teach the Social Psychology of the Holocaust in Slovakia: John Brown University announced this week that Dr. Kevin Simpson, department chair and professor of psychology, has been selected to receive a 2018-2019 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Grant from the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Simpson will teach two courses – the social psychology of the Holocaust and sport and exercise psychology – at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, for a semester beginning February 2019.


JBU to Participate in Diversity, Civility and the Liberal Arts Institute
Inaugural Institute Hosted by the Council of Independent Colleges: John Brown University is one of 26 institutions selected by the Council of Independent Colleges to participate in the inaugural Diversity, Civility, and the Liberal Arts Institute, held in Atlanta, Georgia, June 3 – 6. JBU President Dr. Chip Pollard; Dr. Rod Reed, JBU chaplain; Dr. Trisha Posey, JBU associate professor of history; and Dr. Marquita Smith, JBU associate professor of journalism and coordinator of diversity relations, will represent JBU at the institute.

JBU Construction Management Students Take Second in Regional Competition
John Brown University construction management students received second place in the commercial building category at the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region 5 annual competition in Dallas, sponsored by TEXO. University teams in this category were asked to develop a construction project proposal primarily for a public or private building and make a formal team presentation to a panel of construction professionals.


JBU Athletic Director Robyn Daugherty Named 2017-18 NAIA Under Armour Athletics Director of the Year
John Brown University is pleased to announce that JBU Director of Athletics Robyn Daugherty has been named the 2017-18 NAIA Under Armour Athletics Director of the Year (ADOY) by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Daugherty will accept her award during the James J. Corbett Awards Luncheon at NACDA's 53rd Annual Convention at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Washington, D.C. on Friday, June 29.


JBU to Host Diversity Symposium
Local Leaders to Discuss the Role of Diversity in Faith: John Brown University's Diversity Committee will host a symposium on diversity, titled "Engaging Complexity in Faith Communities: A Collaborative Approach to Social Justice," to discuss social justice and inclusion in faith communities on Thursday, March 8 and Friday, March 9 in JBU's Simmons Great Hall.


Pianist Dr. Clara Christian to Perform at JBU
John Brown University welcomes Dr. Clara Christian, assistant professor of music and coordinator of the piano program at College of the Ozarks, to perform on Tuesday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Berry Performing Arts Center. Christian will perform various selections of Franz Liszt’s Première année: Suisse, W. A. Mozart’s Sonata in F Major, Sergei Rachmaninoff ‘s Variations on a Theme of Corelli and William Bolcom’s Dance Portraits.

Upgrade to Undergraduate Meal Plan Introduced to Room & Board: The John Brown University Board of Trustees announced this week a 2.75 percent increase, the lowest rate increase in more than three decades, for undergraduate tuition, fees, room and board. The rate increase for 2018-2019 academic year amounts to $968, the lowest dollar change in 14 years.

JBU Hosted FBI-Led Cybersecurity Working Group
John Brown University hosted on Tuesday the FBI-led Cybersecurity Working Group, where JBU cybersecurity faculty convened with retail, manufacturing, banking, health and education professionals to discuss current topics in cybersecurity. Key topics included network and data access management, vulnerabilities in Spectre and Meltdown’s processing chips and new threats caused by the increased internet access to personal, home and office devices.

John Brown University welcomes Bryan Loritts, award-winning author and lead pastor of Abundant Life Christian Fellowship of Silicon Valley, California, as the featured speaker for JBU’s Spiritual Renewal Week. JBU Professor Named Emerging Public Intellectual for Literary Work
Wilson Selected to Complete Flannery O’Connor Novel: Dr. Jessica Hooten Wilson, JBU associate professor of creative writing, received the 2017 Emerging Public Intellectual Award from The Center of Christian Scholarship. The $5,000 award, sponsored and adjudicated by leading intellectuals in Cardus, the Action Institute, the Center for Public Justice, the Henry Institute and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, recognizes emerging scholars in Christian academy who are making a public impact.
