[Baseball/Softball] USCAA Announces Baseball/Softball National All-Academic Teams
Mount Pleasant, IA - May 15, 2018 - The United States Collegiate Athletic Association announced the Baseball and Softball National All-Academic Team award winners on Sunday, May 13 at the All-American Championship banquet which was held in DuBois, Pennsylvania.  Iowa Wesleyan University had eleven individuals earn honors for the 2017-18 season.


[Baseball] Payne Earns All-Sportsmanship Honors
Mount Pleasant, IA - May 11, 2018 - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference released their Baseball All-Conference awards last night during the opening rounds of the conference tournament.  Iowa Wesleyan had one member earn a spot on the All-Conference list. This year's awards featured Co-Pitcher of the Year with Jimi Keating of Spalding and Luke Summers from Fontbonne taking the honors.  There were also Co-Coach of the Year awards with Matt Downs of Spalding and Bill Kurich of Webster earning the honors this season.


[Softball] McIlwain, Carney Earn All-Conference Honors
St. Ann, MO - May 4, 2018 - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) announced the 2018 Softball All-Conference award winners during the first day of the conference tournament. Iowa Wesleyan had two individuals receive All-Conference recognition.


[Softball] Iowa Wesleyan Names McIlwain April Student-Athlete of the Month
Mount Pleasant, IA - May 3, 2018 - The Iowa Wesleyan athletic department has named Samantha McIlwain (SR/Boone, IA) as the April Student-Athlete of the Month. McIlwain was the top pitcher for the Tiger Softball team this season, leading the team with 103 innings pitched.  She also earned four of the team's six wins during the month of April.


[IW] Iowa Wesleyan Honors Past and Present Student-Athletes
Mount Pleasant, IA - April 30, 2018 - Iowa Wesleyan University held the Athletic Hall of Fame and Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 27, to recognize the accomplishments of past and present members of Tiger Athletics.  Nearly 350 people gathered in Ruble Arena as IW inducted three new members into the 2018 Hall of Fame Class. Student-athletes were honored for their achievements in the classroom and in their fields of competition."The Hall of Fame and Awards Ceremony is always an exciting event for the athletic department.  We have the privilege to welcome back outstanding members of Tiger Athletics and recognize them for their accomplishments during their time on campus and in life after IW," said Derek Zander, Director of Athletics at Iowa Wesleyan. "We also have many remarkable student-athletes on campus right now and this event allows us to lift up their accomplishments on and off of their respective playing fields, as well as recognize the dedication they show to the University."


[Softball] McIlwain Sets Career Strikeout Record in Loss to Webster
Mount Pleasant, IA - May 1, 2018 - Iowa Wesleyan University hosted Webster University in their final games of the season last night. The Tigers were hoping to end the season on a high note, and although IW could not end the season with wins, Samantha McIlwain (SR/Boone, IA) capped her senior year by breaking the IW career strikeout record.  Iowa Wesleyan dropped both games to the Gorloks by scores of 3-1 and 12-0.The first game of the night proved to be a battle for both teams.  The defenses kept each other in check through most of the game. Webster struck first, scoring the first run in the top of the third inning.  Iowa Wesleyan was able to bounce back with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game up at 1-1. Emmy Rodriguez (JR/Oro Grande, CA) singled up the middle to bring home McKenzie Copher (JR/Worth, IL) for the tying run.


[Softball] Softball Falls in Non-Conference Action against St. Ambrose
Mount Pleasant, IA - April 29, 2018 - Iowa Wesleyan hosted St. Ambrose University this afternoon. The non-conference game was added to the schedule to make up for past games that were canceled due to weather.  The Fighting Bees topped the Tigers in both games, defeating IW 6-1 and 15-1 on the day.In the opening game of the doubleheader, Iowa Wesleyan gave up a run in the first inning to fall behind.  The Fighting Bees added two more runs the third to take a 3-0 lead over the Tigers.


[Baseball] Gile and Belarde Hit Home Runs on Senior Day against Webster
Mount Pleasant, IA - April 29, 2018 - In the final series of the season, the Tigers hosted Webster University. Iowa Wesleyan recognized their seniors players before the start of the games, and although the outcome of the games were not what the team had hoped (7-9 loss in game one and 18-6 loss in game two) for, the team would have several plays they will remember.Webster took an early lead, scoring a run in the first inning of play.  The Tigers didn't trail long, however, as Joseph Belarde (SR/Fountain, CO) hit a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1.  Travis Gile (SR/Oskaloosa, IA), who has been unable to play the past two seasons due to a back injury, got the start on senior day and made the most of it.  Gile hit a solo home run to right field to give Iowa Wesleyan a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning. It was his first home run of his career at IW.


[Men's Golf] Men's Golf Finishes Season with Monmouth Invite
Monmouth, Illinois - April 28, 2018 - The men's golf team competed in the final day of the Monmouth Invite.  They hoped to climb several spots today after finishing day one in fifth place as a team.  Black Hawk College took home the top spot in the two day event, but the Tigers improved on their first round score by seven strokes to take third place.


[Baseball] Webster Tops Tigers in Series Opener
Mount Pleasant, IA - April 28, 2018 - The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team opened up their SLIAC West division game against Webster University this afternoon.  The Tigers had a tough test ahead of them as the Gorloks entered the day with a 15-2 record in conference play.


[Softball] Westminster Proves too much for Tigers
Mount Pleasant, IA -  April 25, 2018 - Iowa Wesleyan took on the top team in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference when they hosted Westminster College.  The Tigers could not overcome early leads by the Blue Jays, dropping both games by scores of 8-1 and 11-1.In the first game of the afternoon, Iowa Wesleyan could not get their bats going.  They were held to just one hit through seven innings of play.


[Men's Golf] Miller, Tigers Take Second in SLIAC Men's Golf Championship
Staunton, Illinois - April 24, 2018 - The final round of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's golf championship took place today.  Iowa Wesleyan finished round one in second place, and they would finish the final day in second place with a team score of 916.  The Tigers were seventeen strokes behind Webster, who took home the top spot after shooting 899 in the championship.


[Baseball] Baseball Holds on for Win at Cornell
Mount Vernon, Iowa - April 24, 2018 -  Today's baseball action featured the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers at Cornell College.  The Tigers never trailed and held off a late rally by the Rams to snap their losing streak with a 6-5 win.Iowa Wesleyan took  an early lead over Cornell, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. Benjamin Steorts (FR/Worden, MT) singled to right field to drive in the first run of  the game. He followed with a two run double in the third inning to put the Tigers in front 3-0. Cornell was able to get a run back in the bottom of the third to cut the IW lead to 3-1.


[Softball] Softball Splits with Knox
Galesburg,  Illinois - April 24, 2018 - The Iowa Wesleyan softball team traveled to Galesburg, Illinois this afternoon for a non-conference matchup against the Prairie Fire of Knox College.  After dropping the first game by a score of 0-1, the Tigers bounced back to take game two 19-12.In game one,  the Tiger offense struggled to get their bats going.  They were held to two hits in seven innings of play. Despite their lack of offense, Iowa Wesleyan's defense remained solid throughout most of the game.  Knox scored the lone run of the game in the fifth inning.


[Softball] McIlwain Strikes Out Thirteen but Tigers Drop Two to Principia
Mount Pleasant, Iowa - April 23, 2018 - The Iowa Wesleyan softball team hosted Principia College this afternoon. The Tigers were looking to keep the momentum going from drawing the split with Spalding yesterday, but they stumbled at home against the Panthers.  Iowa Wesleyan lost game one by a score of 1-0 and fell 4-2 in the final game of the day.Samantha McIlwain (SR/Boone, IA) was in the circle for the  Tigers in the opening game of the afternoon. She gave up one run against the Panthers, a home run to left field, but that proved to be the only run of the game.  McIlwain recorded thirteen strikeouts in the game, allowing just three hits through seven innings.


[Baseball] Baseball Suffers Road Loss, Dropping Series to Eureka
Eureka, Illinois - April 23, 2018 - The series finale between Eureka College and the Iowa Wesleyan baseball team took place this afternoon.  The Tigers entered the contest behind 2-0 in the series and were hoping to avoid the sweep. Iowa Wesleyan failed to maintain an early lead and suffered a 14-5 loss to the Red Devils.


[Men's Golf] Men's Golf Sits in Second After Day One of SLIAC Tournament
Staunton, Illinois - April 23, 2018 - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference kicked off the opening rounds of their conference tournament today.  The teams played through wet conditions and after two rounds, Webster holds the lead with a team score of 608. Iowa Wesleyan trails the Gorloks by thirteen strokes to finish day one in second place.


[Baseball] Baseball Drops Two at Fontbonne, Suffering Walk Off Loss in Game One
St. Louis, Missouri - April 21, 2018 - The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team opened their three game series against Fontbonne University this afternoon.  The opening game went into extra innings after IW's late lead was erased in the sixth. The Tigers suffered a walkoff loss to start the afternoon and were looking to bounce back in the final game of the day.  Iowa Wesleyan was unable to overcome an early deficit in game two, falling 8-4.Fontbonne took a three run lead in the bottom of the third inning, but the Tigers were able to get a run back in the top of the fourth.  Lee Fiala (FR/White City, Canada) singled to right field, bringing in Michael Rojas (JR/West Valley City, UT) for the first IW run.


[Baseball] Baseball Drops Series to Fontbonne
St. Louis, Missouri - April 22, 2018 - Iowa Wesleyan wrapped up their SLIAC West Division series against Fontbonne University this afternoon.  After losing both games to open the series yesterday, the Tigers were looking to avoid a sweep with today's contest.  Iowa Wesleyan could not get their offense going against the Griffins, scoring just one run and falling 6-1 to Fontbonne.The Tigers found themselves facing an early deficit in the final game of the series at Fontbonne.  IW gave up three runs in the first and two runs in the second inning to trail 5-0. Stephen Larson (SO/Windsor, CO) and the rest of the Iowa Wesleyan defense settled in for the next five innings, holding Fontbonne scoreless during the stretch.  Unfortunately for the Tigers, they were unable to get any runs across the plate during the five inning stretch as well.


[Softball] Softball Splits Series with Spalding
Louisville, KY - April 22, 2018 - The Iowa Wesleyan softball team took on Spalding University this afternoon, their sixth game in a four day span thanks to the weather this spring.  The Tigers split with the Golden Eagles, taking game one 5-3 and falling 8-0 in game two.In the opening game, Iowa Wesleyan scored all of their runs in the top of the third inning.  Ashley Machholz (SO/Mediapolis, IA) started the scoring off with a double down the left field line to bring Emmy Rodriguez (JR/Oro Grande, CA) across the plate.  Serena Almodovar (FR/Romeoville, IL) hit a two run single up the middle, and Haley Varga (FR/Harmon, IL) capped the inning off with a two run home run to center field.  The Tigers took a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth, but Spalding was able to get a run back off of an error by the Tigers.


[Women's Basketball] Massner Earns SLIAC Post Graduate Scholarship
Carlinville, Illinois - April 19, 2018 - Darby Massner (JR/Mediapolis, IA) has been selected as one of the 2018 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Post Graduate Scholars. Massner is the first member of Iowa Wesleyan to receive the honor.Massner completed her Bachelor of Science degree in three years while holding a 4.0 as a Marketing major at Iowa Wesleyan. She has also been a member of the women's golf and women's basketball teams, where she earned All-Conference for the past two years and United States Athletic Association All-American honors for the past three years.


[Softball] Eyman Hits Grand Slam in Tigers Sweep of MacMurray
Mount Pleasant, Iowa - April 19, 2018 - Iowa Wesleyan completed another conference sweep at home this afternoon when they hosted MacMurray College.  The Tigers took game one by a score of 7-0 and won 14-4 in game two for their second SLIAC sweep this season.Samantha McIlwain (SR/Boone, IA) earned her second win of the year after pitching a complete game and striking out six batters.  Iowa Wesleyan took an early lead over the Highlanders, scoring two runs in the first inning, and didn't look back.  Serena Almodovar (FR/Romeoville, IL) had a big game, going 4-4 at the plate, scoring two runs, and knocking in one run.


[Baseball] Baseball Comes up Short at Greenville
Greenville, Illinois - April 18, 2018 - The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team was  able to avoid the cold weather here in Iowa with a conference game against Greenville University.  The Tigers enjoyed weather in the mid sixties and were hoping to turn things around. They came close in the first game, but could not complete the comeback effort, falling 7-5.  The second game was once again close, but the Tigers were unable to get enough offense going and lost 4-1 to the Panthers.Chazz Brown (JR/Chicago, IL) gave Iowa Wesleyan a one run lead in the first inning when he singled through the left side to bring home Alex Payne (SR/Richards, MO).  IW's lead was short lived, as Greenville took the lead in the bottom of the second inning when they scored three runs.


[IW] Iowa Wesleyan Student-Athletes Named Main Street Iowa Partner of the Year
Des Moines, Iowa - April 17, 2018 - Main Street Mount Pleasant nominated Iowa Wesleyan student-athletes for Main Street Partner of the Year for all of the hours the student-athletes spent volunteering at events this fall.  On Friday, April 13th, Main Street Iowa announced that the student-athletes had won Main Street Partner of the Year, and they presented the award at the Main Street Iowa Awards Celebration in Des Moines, Iowa.


[Baseball] Baseball Falls in Non-Conference Doubleheader to Monmouth
Mount Pleasant, IA - April 12, 2018 - The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team hosted Monmouth College yesterday afternoon in a non-conference contest at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.  The Tigers were finally able to enjoy some nice weather for their games and were playing at home for just the third time this season. IW dropped the first game 11-1 and tried to make a comeback in the second game but were unable to do so, falling 15-7 in the nightcap.The Tiger offense was kept off balance by the Fighting Scots throughout the first game.  Jake Leonard hit a leadoff single in the first inning, and that proved to be the only hit of the game for Iowa Wesleyan. The lone run for IW came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jake Leonard advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an error by the catcher.
