[Men's Golf] Merrihew hired to lead Men?s Golf; Assist Women?s Basketball
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Director of Athletics Chip Huber is pleased to announce the hiring of Ron Merrihew as the new men's golf coach and assistant women's basketball coach. Merrihew begins his duties immediately and will help lead the men's golf program starting in the fall of 2016 while assisting Katie Mattera in the women's basketball program for 2016-17.


[Baseball] Five baseball players named Daktronics Scholar Athletes
2016 NAIA Baseball Scholar AthletesKANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Wednesday that 353 baseball student-athletes have been named 2016 Daktronics-NAIA Baseball Scholar-Athletes. Cornerstone landed five individuals on the list in seniors Joel Boersen (SR/Jenison, Mich.), Zach Bohl (SR/Hudsonville, Mich.), Justin Geerts (SR/Surrey, B.C.), Travis Gordon (SR/Lowell, Mich.) and Jacob Klemme (SR/Plymouth, Wis.).


[Softball] Trio of softball players named NAIA Scholar Athletes
2016 NAIA Softball Scholar AthletesKANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Wednesday that 397 softball student-athletes have been named 2016 Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar-Athletes. Cornerstone placed three on the list in juniors Whitney Heasley (JR/Byron Center, Mich.) and Ciara Wilke (JR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) as well as senior Abby MacArthur (JR/Lachene, Mich.).

[Baseball] Zach Bohl named 2nd Team Academic All-American
CoSIDA ReleaseGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The CoSIDA Academic All-American Baseball Teams were announced Tuesday afternoon and senior Zach Bohl (SR/Hudsonville, Mich.) earned the nod after being voted in by Sports Information Directors across the country in the college divison. Bohl helped the Golden Eagles to a 19-33 overall record and their second straight appearance in the WHAC postseason tournament.


[Track & Field] Deon Fox finishes career as All-American in Pole Vault
Final Results | Photo GalleryGULF SHORES, Ala. – Deon Fox (SR/Muskegon, Mich.) finished his outstanding 2015-16 season in a Golden Eagle uniform as the senior posted a 6th place finish in the pole vault on the final day of the 2016 Outdoor NAIA National Championships. Fox posted three All-American marks during his senior year as the meet concluded with an 18th place finish on the men's side and 66th place on the women's.


[Track & Field] Trio of T&F/XC athletes named CoSIDA Academic All-District
M-T&F/XCTeams | W-T&F/XC Teams GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The CoSIDA Academic All-District Track & Field/Cross Country Teams were announced Thursday afternoon and seniors Kayla Hunt (SR/Cedar Springs, Mich.) and Tyler Steigenga (SR/Holland, Mich.) were joined by junior Gabe Turner ing earning the nod after being voted in by Sports Information Directors from District 1 that includes 21 states as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The trio has helped the Golden Eagles to a 19-28 overall record with one series remaining in the regular season.

Results | Photo GalleryGULF SHORES, Ala. – The opening day of the 2016 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships saw nine Golden Eagles in competition as both 4x800 relays as well as Audrey Tremaine (SR/Jackson, Mich.) in the 1,500m. Cornerstone will resume action on Friday with the Racewalk and Kevin Vroegh (SO/Dyer, Ind.) in the 800m. Action is being streamed live on naianetwork.com.


[Volleyball] Campbell announces Craig Vlietstra as new assistant coach
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Head volleyball coach Ryan Campbell is pleased to announce the hiring of Craig Vlietstra as his new assistant for the 2016 campaign. Vlietstra comes to Cornerstone with numerous years of collegiate coaching experience and will bring a wealth of knowledge of the game and recruiting to the Golden Eagle program.

Kayla Hunt (SR/Cedar Springs, Mich.) placed eighth to lead things off while she was followed by Nate Vanderwall (SR/Byron Center) (national runner-up) and Sam Elmi (FR/Traverse City, Mich.) (third place) on the men's side.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Head men's bowling coach Chris Slagter has added Wyoming-Lee standout Jorge Evans-Guzman to the 2016-17 roster. It comes as another local product for the second-year coach as Cornerstone will enter 2016-17 competing in the WHAC and USBC.


[Men's Soccer] Men's Soccer announces 2016 captains
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone University head men's soccer coach Mark Bell has announced seniors Regan Billings (SR/Wichita, Kan.), Nick Hopkins (JR/Ada, Mich.) and junior Kevin Nimmo (SO/Livonia, Mich.) will serve as captains for the 2016 season. The team is fresh off an 8-10-1 campaign that saw them finish 6-4-1 in league play.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Last chance week kicked off on Wednesday night as the Golden Eagle track & field teams competed at the Aquinas Twilight meet, hosted by Davenport University. CU had solid performances throughout and they will continue their week at North Central College as well as Grand Valley State this weekend.


[Women's Basketball] Mattera inks four to varsity roster for 2016-17
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Head women's basketball coach Katie Mattera has announced the addition of four student athletes to the program for the 2016-17 school year. Mattera has signed a pair of local high school standouts in Wayland's Ali Cutler and Hudsonvilles Shaina DenBesten as well as transfers Cass Vredevoogd of Dordt College and Julie Brown of Grand Rapids CC.


[Men's Soccer] Men?s Soccer adds four to 2016 recruiting class
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone University men's soccer head coach Mark Bell inked four more student athletes to the program for 2016 to join the pair of Holland Christian signees from earlier this season. Bell will welcome in Habin Bang, Joshua Mitchell, Matthew Nykamp and Kachinvya Silwamba to join Joshua Busscher and Ben Stump for next season.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Head bowling coach Chris Slagter has added another local standout to his first full recruiting class as he recently signed Three River's Mark Willma Jr. He is the fifth men's signee for next year's recruiting class as the Golden Eagles will be in their second year of a program competing in the WHAC and USBC.

Game Notes | Live CoverageGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Cornerstone University is the host for the 2016 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference baseball tournament and the Golden Eagles open play on Monday vs. top seed Madonna University. Games will be played at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Monday at Cornerstone and at Davenport and the tournament will finish on Tuesday and Wednesday at CU.

2016 All-WHAC Baseball HonorsGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference announced its postseason honors today and Cornerstone landed one on first team and had a pair honored with Gold Glove's. All in total, the Golden Eagles had 11 different players recognized as CU plays host to the WHAC Tournament through Wednesday.

Madonna Box Score | Davenport Box ScoreGRAND RAPIDS - Mich. – Cornerstone was victim to a late inning rally by the top seed in their opening game and then couldn't contain a powerful Davenport lineup as they fell in both games on Day 1 of the WHAC Tournament to conclude their season. CU fell 4-3 to Madonna in the opener and 11-2 in the nightcap to the Panthers to finish the 2016 campaign at 19-33 overall. 


[Men's Basketball] Men?s Basketball announces 2016-17 recruiting class
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Head coach Kim Elders is pleased to announce the signings of four standout student athletes to join the men's basketball program in 2016-17. Elders and his staff have inked local products Tyler Baker and Riley Costen as well as state-wide prospects in Kyle Hayes and Jake Brubaker. All four will join a team fresh off a 27-7 campaign that resulted in the team's 14th trip to the NAIA DII National Tournament.

Complete ResultsADRIAN, Mich. – Freshman Joey DeBoer (FR/Grand Rapids, Mich.) claimed the individual championships in the Steeplechase on Friday evening at the WHAC Championships as he highlighted a fifth place CU finish in Adrian. The Golden Eagles tallied 56 points as Indiana Tech took the team crown with 270.


[Women's Outdoor Track & Field] Women?s T&F sees balance at WHAC Championships

[Women's Basketball] Tanner Hostetler named Cornerstone's Valedictorian
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone women's basketball student athlete Tanner Hostetler (SR/Archbold, Ohio) has been named the school's valedictorian for the class of 2016. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and Finance with a GPA of 3.99 and is the daughter of Jeryl and Jill Hostetler of Pettisville, Ohio.
